Wassenaar — SIDH received an outstanding opportunity to host a pencak silat workshop and crash programme for its pencak silat athletes, interested students and teachers, April 4th, 2018. The workshop was provided by a team of Panglipur School led by Mr Cecep Arif Rahman and two of his assistants: Mr Reza Hilman Ripani and Mr Trisna Irawan. This event was possible under the auspices of the Indonesian Embassy of The Hague.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja appreciated Mr Rahman and team as well as the Indonesian School of The Hague. H.E. Ambassador also congratulated SIDH pencak silat athletes—coached by Mrs Zulaikha Nur Hasanah—that had successfully taken a number of competitions prizes so far. Ambassador Puja expected that promoting pencak silat as an Indonesian indigenous martial arts as an event promoting Indonesia.
During this programme SIDH pencak silat athletes did not only learn new techniques and movements of the Panglipur School but also trained together with the team. Mr Rahman is also a trainer and manager of the Padepokan Kasundan who is himself a 6th generation of the Panglipur School. Moreover, he was featured in The Raid 2: Berandal and Star Wars: The Force Awakens movies.
Another feature of this programme was the exhibition of pencak silat robots by SIDH students trained and supervised by Dr Safreni Candra Sari.
Present in the event were SIDH Principal, Mr Udik Ripul, SIDH teachers and interested students. SIDH has been really grateful to Ambassador Puja, the Indonesian Embassy of The Hague and Mr Rahman and team for having this rare opportunity.
Earlier on Saturday, March 31st, 2018 Mr Rahman and team also coached a workshop at SIDH for pencak silat practitioners and fans in The Netherlands. The programme was carried out under the collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy of The Hague and the Netherlands Pencak Silat Federation.
